Before the IPL 2026 season, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have decided to make a big change in their team strategy. According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, the franchise is all set to appoint Australian legend Tom Moody as their Global Director of Cricket. He will oversee all cricket operations for the RPSG Group, which includes IPL’s Lucknow Super Giants, SA20’s Durban Super Giants, and Manchester Originals in The Hundred.

Tom Moody is one of the most experienced coaches in world cricket. Over the past two decades, he has worked as a coach and cricket director with several top teams. Recently, he helped Oval Invincibles win their third consecutive title in The Hundred. Earlier, he led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their first IPL title in 2016. He served as SRH’s head coach from 2013 to 2019 and later became their Director of Cricket in 2021.
As a player, Tom Moody had an impressive international career. He was part of Australia’s World Cup-winning teams in 1987 and 1999. He also coached Sri Lanka’s national team from 2005 to 2007, guiding them to the final of the 2007 World Cup.
When it comes to Lucknow Super Giants, the team performed well in their first two IPL seasons (2022 and 2023) by reaching the playoffs. However, their performance dropped later. In the IPL 2025 season, LSG won only 6 out of 14 matches and finished 7th in the points table. At their home ground, Ekana Stadium, they managed to win just 2 out of 7 games.
With Tom Moody’s appointment, LSG hopes to bring new energy, strong planning, and better results. Fans are expecting the team to make a strong comeback in IPL 2026 and once again fight for the playoffs and the title.
